I review a lot of hotels. Normally just based on a single stay however The Charlotte House Hotel and its sister, The Bail House Hotel are two have that I have stayed in several times and never really got around to reviewing, so here it goes…
Initially the service was fantastic. Both the reception staff and the bar staff were very very helpful. They, however seem less than helpful if you seem to book and stay during a weekends and/or wedding. This hotel obviously make a lot of money from weddings and its obvious – when the wedding party is around you are always last priority. Its rather an odd balance as in my opinion, the way you get these weddings is by treating your customers right! So just a warning, if you are thinking of booking please call in advance to ensure there is no wedding booked as well. Our last stay we arrived to a ruckus and checked out 10 minutes later – with some very bad attitude from the on-call manager I might add. After some reluctance we were transferred to ‘The Bailgate Hotel’ – its sister and that was no better either – shared bathrooms I don’t think so. We soon checked out and went to the new DoubleTree Hilton (Separate Review).
This is something I cannot fault. Charlotte House Hotel is set in a wonderful area of Lincoln City, on a place called ‘The Green’. You are within meters of Lincoln Caste and a only a few minutes walk to Lincoln Cathedral. My only warning is that if you find hills problematic I’d advise staying somewhere else as to get into the main town you must traverse ‘Steep Hill’ and its name is no lie – its REALLY steep! But 9 out of 10 for location.
A difficult one. We stayed in their ‘Premium Double’ every time. Its nice, but not worth the price tag stated on their website. The room isn’t soundproof so you can hear everyone talking in the corridor and next door. Last time we stayed there was also a wedding party and you could hear everything from downstairs – its an old building and it appears they have taken minimal measures to reduce this noise. Furnishing of the room was nice, good quality. Bed not so much – rather lumpy. The bathroom is fantastic. I couldn’t have asked for more! This is probably the only thing that stands out. The normal freebies, chocolates, shower gels etc apply. They do not offer a room service facility after 10pm – odd for a hotel.
I have trouble with this one. We love boutique hotels they always seem to have a charm about them – as does this one. There ‘Premium Double Room’ is really a ‘Basic’ room enhanced with furniture and a fantastic shower suite. As I said nice, but not worth the list price. If you call up generally you can get a better price, that or check Superbreaks or Hotels.com. But you can get it WAY cheaper. There are also charges for WiFi (30 mins a day free) and Car Parking £5 a night. Not something you expect from a hotel like this. Finally if you don’t manage to find a space in there own car park you must use the council one next door – very unsecure and you have to get up at 8am to renew your ticket.
We have stayed here three times and every time the restaurant has been closed. It looks gorgeous but we have never had the chance to eat there. NB: They won’t tell you this is closed when booked so again enquire. We did have breakfast no complaints. Average really…
There sheer focus on weddings and bad attitude towards complaints seems to have put me off. But if you are going to stay we proactive ask questions ‘Is there a wedding on?’, ‘Will the restaurant be open?’ etc. This will ensure you have a much nicer stay. We might stay here again, it used to have a fond place in our hearts sadly not so much after our last stay it was an epic failure. My final piece of advise would be to pay for your room on checkout. We made the mistake of paying on arrival and them holding our room fee hostage when complaining. I would love to give this hotel another chance.

Not only this you can upgrade to the latest model for only $59. What did they do? Upgrade your computer or give you a complete new one. Whatever this seems like a pretty good promise. Wonder if anyone actually used it and if they did was it really ‘the latest model’?

To clear (or flush) the DNS cache in Mac OSX, we can do it with the help of Terminal. Its pretty simple and requires minimal tech knowledge. Simple open the terminal application located inside the utilities folder.
Some Mac OS X 10.5+ users seem to have problems. To clear DNS cache in Leopard, use one of the the following commands. The first worked for me.

I pay for Netflix in the UK. I pay for it and enjoy it however I get very annoyed at the lack of good UK content – the US service is renown for being fantastic and you can browse its fantastic variety of content online. I was browsing the internet one day when I discovered this fantastic service.
Setting up the service from Unblock US is pretty simple. All you have to do is change a couple of DNS numbers and then you are ready to go. It is that simple.
They tunnel the DNS lookup trough their servers, and even though I would love to provide some more in-depth details about how it works the inner workings are a trade secret of Unblock US. The fact of the matter is that it works as advertised. It lets you view, stream and download from many US Services that have location based software detection installed on their sites.

We stay in a lot of hotels, in fact a lot of hotels in Lincoln – mainly due to relatives close by and it being a nice city to have a weekend getaway. This stay we thought we would try the new Hilton in lincoln, It opened on the 30th December 2011.
Upon arrival we were greeted well, very polite and helpful members of staff – we also got a free Cookie (this is called a warmer by DoubleTree staff). This seems to be the norm at all DoubleTree by Hilton Hotels. Great Start!
Im happy.
When we got to the room…

What’s your opinion on the two services? I tried the Rdio I did like it a lot. I used Spotify for a while with and without a subscription – but as I have an iPhone they insist I must pay for their service. Most of my friends also use Spotify so I can see what they are listening to, and share music with them. I don’t have any friends that use Rdio. Secondly I like that you can incorporate iTunes with it. And lastly Spotify has more music than Rdio – and you can import playlists from the internet, people like me are just too lazy to create there own.
What I don’t like is that in order to have a single album on my iPhone app I have to make a playlist, not with Rdio. I can just have artists separated into artists, like iTunes. I like the UI a lot better on Radio, its simply must cleaner than Spotify’s.
I am going to use both while I am out and about and see which one I bet on with better in general life.
So what are your thoughts?

Today I managed to brick my router. I flash the wrong firmware from the DD-WRT website. Half reluctant to buy a new one, half needing my internet RIGHT NOW.
I decided to try to fix it – and I DID! I took a mix of advise from several different people and made it work, several times over just to make sure. Here is a very detailed manual in how to do this. If you have anything to add please comment at the bottom!

I don’t know a single iPhone user that doesn’t have Instagram installed on their phone, its nearly as common as Facebook or Twitter these days.
In a revelation Mark Zuckerberg today announced that Facebook has acquired Instagram for $1 Billion US Dollars.
“We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience,” Facebook CEO said this afternoon. “We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.”
The current CEOs of Instagram promise on their blog that they will be keeping the teams separate and continuously working on new features – its good to know the two Apps won’t be completely merged. Especially with the recent release of the Android App.
Will this be a fantastic move? Or the downfall for Instagram? Only time will tell…
Awesome video. Epic parody of LMAFO’s ‘Sexy and I know it’. Just wanted to share this with you guy!

I love my iPad and iPhone a lot, and I don’t want them to come to any unnecessary harm so I buy screen protectors. Up until the iPad ’3′ aka The ‘New’ iPad I have purchased Matte effect protectors – simple due to preference and the face they don’t leave fingerprints. (Yuk).
I paid £15.99 for the Bekin MatteScreen™ Overlay. Applied it and I was horrified, the retina screen was ruined!
Even though Belkin’s packaging claimed it had been designed for the ‘new’ iPad, it was clear Apple had not told them about the amazing new screen (my assumption, although it could just be the fact Belkin ignored it and re-branded iPad 2 products).
The screen appeared crystallised and ‘non-retina’. I removed it straight away and wow could you tell the difference. After reading around on various forums and blogs it appears others have noticed too.
Has anyone noticed this yet on the iPhone 4 or 4s? Or could you recommend a good screen protector where this isn’t a problem?
I await screen protection!! lol
